There was a time in all of our lives when we were mayor of a miniature imaginary world. It probably was a GI Joe World or a My Little Pony World. But we reigned supreme. It was the days when we demanded cake for breakfast and cried because we didn’t want to brush our teeth before bedtime. An uncomplicated time of dollhouses and glue sticks.
We inevitably had to grow up, get jobs, and strive for the American Dream of living in a house so spacious that we would need elevators to navigate through it. MTV Cribs glamorized that lifestyle (as if it needed any more glamorization)
Well, I hate to burst that bubble, but there is a cultural movement happening right now that would flip that American Dream idea right on its head, or should I say roof.
It’s called the Tiny House Movement.
Born out of the concern for the environment and the carbon footprint we all leave behind, the Tiny House Movement is exactly what it sounds like. A collection of individuals who decide to live simply and counter the rise of the McMansions that contributed to the downfall of the American economy. The Tiny House devotees live mortgage free and contribute much less to environmental deterioration. It’s a life altering commitment. A commitment to uncomplication.
There are companies, like Tumbleweed Houses, that are dedicated to helping others build their dream home, albeit a tiny one (89 sq ft tiny). Believe me, the Tiny House movement is not a fad, its a lifestyle.
Less space begets less clutter, which begets an uncomplicated lifestyle.
Some people uncomplicate their lives by making checklists, others live in Tiny Homes. There is an avenue to uncomplication in every aspect of life, you just have to find it. And sometimes, you have to build it.
